Glenmorangie Artein 21 Year Old, Aged 15 yrs.
Single Malt Scotch

Nose: Very appealing nose, although not a single person expected this to be from Scotland with a rye or bourbon style. Green apples, sultanas, orange zest – the orange is a defining feature of this whisky. Fresh bounty bar and Terry’s chocolate orange. It’s a silky sweet honeyed rye bread with marmalade.

Palate: Creamy with plenty of substance, sweeter on the palate than the nose although the orange hits hard followed by tropical fruits. Plenty of orange zest and orange bitters and an orange liqueur. Is this perhaps an aged Cointreau? With water it feels like a mixture of old and young whisky, incredibly vibrant and sweet with a little woodiness mixed in. Lastly, with water it has a little bit more biscuit wafer and more, yes you’ve guessed it, oranges!
Finish: Not its strong point but it changes slightly to a cake theme, particularly battenburgs.

Comments: All about the orange, in whatever form. Not thought to be a Scottish malt, more a rye whisky or a bourbon perhaps? Very interesting and confusing to even the most experienced whisky drinkers.

St. Francis Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007
Sonoma County, Cabernet Sauvignon

Lighter-weight for a Cabernet. Perfect for those seeking the cassis and current flavors and straightforward tannins without the Napa Valley weight. Notes of licorice accent the fruit, and yields to a smooth finish.

Domaine Couly-Dutheil Chinon Rose, 2011
Chinon, Rose

Domaine Couly Dutheil is in one of the most beautiful villages in all of France: Chinon. For a quarter of a mile in each direction along the River are charming stone houses built right into the hillside. The land rises steeply from the bank and on its highest part with a lot of vineyards in between sits a chateau, noble though in ruins.

Domaine Couly Dutheil has been making some of the Loire’s best wines for more than 80 years now. This Rosé is produced on gravel and sandy soils. The grapes are picked by hand and the yields are low. This is not some after-thought of a wine, it is a beautiful expression of Cabernet Franc.

You can taste the hint of red berries (Rosé should never just taste like pink white wine) and there is that zing of fresh, perfect acidity in your mouth.
